Managed by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), the National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative is a competitive grant designed to address the growing number of unsubmitted sexual assault kits (SAKs) in law enforcement custody to provide resolution for victims. SAKI improves state and local jurisdictions’ capacities to respond to violent crime through the inventory of unprocessed kits, collection of DNA from sexual assault kit evidence, generation of CODIS-compatible and forensic genetic genealogy (FGG) profiles, investigation and prosecution of SAK cases.
