Saliva as easy-to-use sample type in integrated workflows for DNA and SARS-CoV-2 research: how to standardize collection and extraction
There is an urgent need for specimen quality improvement by standardizing pre-analytical workflows in order to reduce analytical errors. Human saliva collection is non-invasive and easy-to-do. Once collected, the saliva can be used for nucleic acid isolation in various research applications, as well as detection and quantification of viruses such as SARS-CoV-2. In this webinar, we discuss challenges, opportunities and already existing standards for saliva collection, stabilization, transport and storage. Our scientific expert Franziska Kaiser will present an optimized device for saliva collection linked to a pre-analytical workflow including automated and manual QIAGEN extraction kits for the molecular analysis of nucleic acids. |

Franziska Kaiser,
Franziska Kaiser is an R&D scientific expert within QIAGEN and BD’s joint venture PreAnalytiX in Hilden, Germany. She studied Molecular Biomedicine at the Westfälische Wilhelms-University in Münster (Germany) and at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University in Bonn (Germany) with a research focusing on stem cell biology. Since joining PreAnalytiX in 2020, Franziska has been working on stabilization and extraction of nucleic acids in human saliva samples.
