Waste management of electrical and electronic equipment at end of life
As a supplier, manufacturer and distributor of medical equipment which is classified as Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) and Battery Containing Devices (BCD), we recognize our Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) responsibilities based on worldwide regulations.
We endeavor to ensure that our branded electrical and electronic products are managed responsibly at the end of life by collaborating with the Reverse Logistics Group Recycling Network Europe(RLG RENE GmbH) organization. Our collaboration with RENE RLG for the collection of EEE ensures that these items are treated according to the principles of environmental protection, which include recycling within the country of collection.
In accordance with country-specific requirements, QIAGEN subsidiaries are registered with the respective authority or take-back program as listed in the table below. If your country is not listed, this means there is either no legal obligation or the required threshold for reporting has not been met by QIAGEN. This could also mean that the in country distributor is responsible for registration and reporting within your country.
The symbol known as the “crossed-out wheelie bin” can be found on the labeling of our devices to indicate that EEE at the end of their life cycle must be collected in accordance with local legal requirements. This consists of them being primarily separated from the municipal waste stream and specifically disposed of to mitigate the negative impact of waste on the environment and human health.
We expect all our customers will respect the legal obligations within their country for the disposal of EEE and BCD at the end of life. Therefore, please remember to follow the steps below for the disposal of your devices:
- Contact our Technical Support team for details of actions to take for disposal
- Delete or erase your personal and private data from the digital storage
- Follow the decontamination procedures provided by QIAGEN before collection from the designated collection agency
- Remove batteries, lamps, and any luminaires from the devices
